Volunteer Opportunities
Community Farm Work Day – Native Plants Spring Cleaning
We’re calling on volunteers to join us in weeding and maintaining our native seed increase plots. Hilltop Hanover Farm has over 30 plots planted in accordance with the Seeds of Success protocol developed by the Bureau of Land Management. Each plot contains at least three distinct genetic populations of a native species and plays an important role in supporting regional native seed production and ecological restoration work.
Volunteers will work alongside our Native Plant Team to help care for these important plantings.
What to expect:
Using short- and long-handled weeding tools
Kneeling and bending
Moving wheelbarrows and garden totes
What to bring:
Sturdy closed-toe shoes
A water bottle
A hat and sunglasses
Garden Care Day
Spend some time in the garden to keep it healthy and beautiful. Volunteers will work together to clear debris and unwanted growth, freshen up plant beds, prepare the space for plantings, and improve pathways. Volunteers will learn how the farm grows and cares for the vegetables, herbs, and flowers that fill the beds each season.
No experience is needed. Volunteers should dress accordingly for outdoor work, bring gloves or favorite hand tools, and get ready to enjoy fresh air, teamwork, and make a tangible difference. Events are subject to change based on weather conditions.
Sheep Shearing Day (Volunteer)
Celebrate Mother’s Day at Muscoot Farm during its annual Sheep Shearing Day – a hands-on, educational event that highlights the shearing of the farm’s sheep and the journey from fleece to fiber!
Muscoot Farm is looking for friendly, helpful volunteers to assist with event setup, welcome guests, support the wool processing station, and guide families through fun fiber crafts. Volunteers will help demonstrate simple wool prep techniques (like skirting and carding), oversee activity tables, and ensure a smooth and engaging experience for all visitors. No experience is necessary – training is provided on the day of. Come dressed for the weather and wear comfortable shoes!
Potato Planting – Community Farm Work Day
Join us for our April Community Farm Work Day at Hilltop Hanover Farm! This month, volunteers will work alongside our farmers to plant our potato crop—a classic spring task that helps set the stage for the season ahead.
Volunteers will help place seed potatoes and assist with planting tasks in the field. Participants should be comfortable working outdoors and able to bend at the waist and kneel on uneven terrain.
Registration is required. To sign up, you’ll need to create a free Bloomerang Volunteer account (our volunteer scheduling system) so you can register for the shift and receive event updates and details.
9th District Gardening Academy
The Academy is a volunteer project open to all 9th District Garden Club members. The projects will occur once a month on Wednesdays. Sessions will be two hours long with instruction and hands-on time to use your new skill!

The Academy is open to Garden Club members only!
Volunteer Work Project- Turning of the Compost and Neatening the Surroundings.
We will be turning over, adding soil and clearing surrounding debris of our compost station. Please bring work gloves. Hand tools will be provided. Great for service credit hours.
Flint Knapping Tools and Techniques
Come and learn trick of a historic trade, where we will create an arrowhead piece from a certain type of stone. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All protective gear will be provided and must be worn.
Volunteer Work Project- Letting the Sanctuary Entrance Kiosk Grow
We will neaten up the entrance kiosk with some nice plantings to bring in the summer. Please bring work gloves. Hand tools will be provided. Great for service credit hours.
